ASE 50th Anniversary Celebrations
The Association for Science Education is now 50 years old and we are celebrating throughout 2013 - recalling the achievements of the past and introducing exciting innovations for the future.
ASE Summer Celebration Conference 2013
In the spirit of innovation the ASE is holding a special Summer Celebration Conference in 2013. The Summer Celebration Conference will be the ideal opportunity to express new ideas, showcase new techniques and resources and deliver them in unconventional ways. By staging innovative science education events, alongside ccelebratory ones, this conference will be unique and memorable. By creating a smaller scale event than the Annual Conference, we will have the chance to hone in on the best aspects of what the ASE has to offer. Unlike the Annual Conference there will be a limited number of places available.
ASE Annual Conference 2013
ASE’s flagship event, the Annual Conference, took place from 2nd to 5th January 2013, marking the precise date of the 50th anniversary (when the Association of Women Science Teachers and the Science Masters’ Associations came together to form the ASE) and kick starting the year of celebrations. The Annual Conference is a “must attend” event for science educators. It is unparalleled in the UK and a magnet for overseas visitors. The celebrations this year offered an ideal platform for a host of activities to make the 2013 Annual Conference exceptional, and it lived up to expectations. See what delegates had to say about their experience.
"The whole conference wasn’t only about workshops, knowledge and materials. It was about meeting teachers from all over the world and exchanging experiences" - Monika Preis, Germany
"I loved the whole experience and came away buzzing with enthusiasm. Such a treat to be surrounded by so many like minded people!" - Una Leader, Cork, Ireland
ASE 50th Anniversary Book
In the build up to the anniversary year, a group of authors delved into ASE’s past to write a book charting its history and key achievements. The book was launched at the Annual Conference. There are still a small number of limited edition presentation copies available to buy so place your order now before it’s too late.

The future of the ASE
ASE is continually striving to better meet the needs of its membership, while keeping up with 21st Century developments. This means making sure we are up to speed technologically. We are therefore rethinking how our members access information through our books, journals and website. In 2013, we are aiming to add more digital elements to our publications. Making mobile versions available is one of the areas we are looking at. Expect some exciting developments on this. Don’t miss out - keep visiting this page for further announcements about the anniversary celebrations taking place throughout 2013!

Celebrating Fifty Years – the plans move on In April’s Education in Science, I outlined the plans for our Anniversary Year next year. Now, it is time to give an update as plans are moving on quickly. For those to whom this is news, ASE’s fiftieth anniversary is a great opportunity to celebrate our achievements but also to look at what we do, and in particular at how we communicate, and make sure that we are fit for the next fifty years.
