Cadbury is a leading global confectionery company with an outstanding portfolio of chocolate, gum and candy brands. Chirk is where it all begins. Here, we take delivery of specially picked cocoa bean from Ghana, cleaning, roasting and grinding them to produce the cocoa mass that gives so many of our products their distinctive chocolatiness. It’s an important job that sees us process an average of 180 tonnes of beans per day, generating a mouth-watering 40,000–60,000 tonnes of cocoa mass each and every year. Built in 1969, the Chirk site was chosen following the demise of the region’s coal mining industry, providing jobs for hundreds of local people. In addition to the all-important cocoa mass, and its derivative cocoa butter, the 150 people working at Chirk today are responsible for producing Cadbury Drinking Chocolate and Cadbury Bournville Cocoa.
