IOP Schools Lecture Tour 2013 – Defying Gravity: Make physics your launchpad

Location : Marden High School, North Shields AND Durham Community Business College
Find out how scientists and engineers are using physics to explore the cosmos. This inspiring lecture will reveal how: physics has allowed us to travel into space; entrepreneurs are opening up space to new generations through space tourism.
Presenter
The lecture will be delivered by Laura Thomas. Laura has an undergraduate degree in Astrophysics from the University of Edinburgh. She has extensive outreach experience having worked for Queen Mary, University of London for the previous six years. Laura is a professional science communicator who visits many schools each year to talk on diverse topics. She is also an ESERO Space Ambassador.
Audience: 14 – 16 year olds
Talk duration: 1 hour
Curriculum links include
Forces and motion, materials and their uses and how science works.

The lecture is free but there are limited places available at each venue, so booking ahead is essential.
