This course is ideal for more experienced technicians or those looking to further develop their skills. The course will focus on how technicians can support and help to improve the effectiveness of practical work in school chemistry (at both pre- and post-16 levels). Sessions on the course will cover aspects of health and safety specific to chemicals and chemistry, practical techniques and innovative ideas for successful classroom practical work (including demonstrations).
Much of the course is ‘hands-on’ and there will be plenty of opportunity for technicians to discuss and share their own ideas.
The course would also provide an ideal opportunity for technicians to work alongside new or inexperienced teaching colleagues who are also welcome to apply.
Participants will be able to:
- work towards successfully implementing their new skills and knowledge acquired on the course
- describe and apply knowledge, understanding and actions that will lead to an enhanced technical service for supporting chemistry learning and teaching
- describe and explain chemical safety implications and how to address them
