Animals UK should prove an extremely useful resource in the teaching of KS2 science. The images and activities are attractive and engaging and will certainly help children to make use of all parts of the resource.
It should improve children's facility in the key skill of finding information and evidence. It also includes useful cross-curricular links to ICT, numeracy, and geography. While it could be used effectively with an interactive whiteboard and projector to introduce and develop each theme, the program would be most useful for small group and individual work.
Teachers will find its numerous collections of well-organised images, activities and extensions very useful. Additional supporting material is available in the pack, on the CD and via the website. There are also activity sheets that can be photocopied for use on field trips, along with the Gatekeeper Guides - beautifully illustrated, laminated guides that can be used as posters or taken out into the field.
Cleverly linked together, the product encourages children to keep on investigating by answering successive questions. Sensitively deployed, context-based links lead them into further detail. The engaging commentaries, attractive design and variety of learning resources that comprise this product make a substantial contribution to the teaching of KS2 science.
