A practical book full of tested ideas.
You can always tell when somebody is speaking from personal experience. Teacher books that contain a lot of ‘you coulds’ usually reflect a wealth of untried ideas. But that is not the case with Jennifer Pattinson’s book for the ASE. Here is practical advice on compost, on choosing and growing a crop, on sowing and harvesting, and on slugs! There are one or two small errors that should have been picked up in editing – the UK’s juiciest slug is called Limax not Milax – and the task sheets are probably better interpreted by you rather than used as photocopy fodder. But this is a clear and accessible book, illustrated with photographs of children from Jennifer’s primary school in Cumbria busily engaged in gardening tasks. It could inspire you to get digging!
