Resources on the QCA website - November 2005
A number of useful documents and resources were
developed as a result of the QCA dissemination conferences
that took place in October. These events were run in
collaboration with Ofsted, the Secondary National Strategy
(SNS), the National Advisers and Inspectors Group for
Science (NAIGS) and the Science Learning Centres (SLC),
with those attending receiving a CD-Rom of the resources.
For further information see http://www.qca.org.uk/12265_14377.html

National Strategy materials - pedagogical issues in
choosing new GCSE course(s)
A number of handouts and training materials are
available from the National Strategy website, relating
to the extent and implications of the changed Programme
of Study, ideas on teaching and learning pedagogies,
what a new grade C might require and a SWOT analysis
of one of a selection of new specifications. Downloads

Presentation materials overviewing the changes
Adrian Fenton and Marianne Cutler's presentation formed
the basis of sessions at recent ASE Area Conferences.
This reviews the stages in development for the changes,
comparing what's on offer from the various exam boards
and raising questions that Heads of Science should be
asking to help them make their decisions.

A useful PowerPoint Presentation was shown at the National
Meeting for Teachers of Chemistry, which looks at the
draft specifications for 2006 and overviews the choices

together with a wide array of representatives from QCA,
DfES, Awarding Bodies, Secondary Strategy, Science Learning
Centres, professional bodies, Specialist Schools Trust,
