About the project

Design for Teaching and Learning

Good laboratory design in schools involves the science department from the outset and ensures that teaching and learning is central to the design process. This software is a tool to encourage communication between science teachers and technicians and architects and designers.

Architects, designers and manufacturers will find comprehensive, authoritative guidance in the Documents section, including 'Science Accommodation in Secondary Schools' Building Bulletin 80 from the DfES and 'Designing and Planning Laboratories', Guide L14 from the CLEAPSS School Science Service.

Science teachers and technicians will appreciate the advice in 'Teaching, Learning and Laboratory Design' and a range of other articles, Case Studies and Vignettes. Pupils can also access the software and make their own inputs to designs.

The design tool enables anyone to explore their ideas and then view them in both 2-D and 3-D. The 3-D version has a 'walk-through' facility that enables people to view their design from any angle and from a pupil's or teacher's perspective. All those involved in the process can use the plans and share ideas via the website.

Software specs can be found in the "User Notes" section.

A forum has been set up to run in the members area of the ASE website. You will need to be a member to access this area. If you need any further assistance, please contact us at info@ase.org.uk.
