New professional indemnity insurance offer for ASE members

8 December 2011

Members of the ASE can access the insurance expertise of CCV Southampton.

As one of the many benefits of joining the association Insurance Broker CCV Southampton is offering ASE members Professional Indemnity Insurance premiums from as little as £125*.

Annette Smith, the Association for Science Education’s Chief Executive, said: “Here at ASE, we try very hard to make your membership great value for money and I’m very pleased that we are able to help out those members who need Professional Indemnity Insurance.”

The ASE’s National Advisers and Inspectors Group for Science (NAIGS) are among those who stand to benefit from the offer. The group’s members include OfSTED inspectors, Local Authority advisers and consultants, independent consultants and trainers, advisory, lead and advanced skills teachers, and Professional Development Leaders from Science Learning Centres.

Dr Andrea Back, Chair of the NAIGS committee, said: “This offer has significant potential benefits for NAIGS members as many of them are setting up as independent school improvement consultants.

"It adds to the many benefits NAIGS members already get, such as the group’s Annual Conference in July which offers an unrivalled opportunity to tap into cutting-edge policy and practice in science education, innovative ideas for science teaching and a great chance to network.”

Doug Dunning ACII, Account Executive at CCV Southampton, said: “In today’s litigation culture, this form of insurance is becoming increasingly relevant for a range of professions.

"Professional indemnity insurance is designed to protect you in the event of a dissatisfied client claiming that your professional skill is inadequate.

"It provides financial support for defence costs, withheld fees and any compensation which may be awarded against you**.

"Put simply it is financial protection against professional error. Despite best intentions, no one is immune to mistakes or accusations of mistakes, Professional Indemnity insurance tackles the consequences of these errors."

He added: “Minimum premiums for this type of insurance can run to £100's and application forms into several pages. CCV Southampton are here to help simplify the process and ensure competitive quotes for ASE members, as well as to provide support and guidance during the buying process and in the event of a claim."

• Premiums start as low as £125*, plus insurance premium tax.
