Genome generation: free workshop for qualified and trainee teachers

Date: Tuesday 18th December 2012

Time: 05:00 PM to 05:00 PM

Location : Horniman Museum, London Time: 5pm

Have you ever wondered how the latest genetics and genomics research will have an impact on health and society?

Do you want to encourage your students to develop the skills to discuss contemporary science with confidence?

Get your students debating ethical issues in the first of a series of free training opportunities for qualified and trainee teachers and educators of KS3-KS5 science.

In this 2.5 hour event, you will:

  •  be introduced to the Genome Generation discussion activity that helps students debate current issues in genetics and genomics.
  •  learn how the activity allows students to analyse data, challenge their own ideas and consider how genomics will transform healthcare.
  • work in groups to trial the activity for yourselves.
  • discuss how the resource can be used in your classroom.

Workshops can also be run if a group of teachers gets together and provides a venue. For more information, anyone interested should contact Louise Newby on

Workshops will also be held at various locations in the UK and Scotland in 2013. For the latest details visit

Full details about the event are available on this Genome Generation flyer.
