This professional development day is a series of hands-on workshops that will look at the many ways in which a wide range of strategies can be employed in the classroom to help raise attainment at GCSE including:
Developing Dialogue in the Classroom: this workshop looks at feedback as the heart of Assessment for Learning and how dialogue drives this in the formative classroom.
Effective revision strategies: this workshop will explore how teachers can plan for the periodic revisiting of topics and provide students with opportunities to refresh their understanding of key ideas.
Developing literacy skills: this workshop features a number of practical classroom strategies to support students in producing extended written responses that are both more detailed and of higher quality.
Developing practical skills assessments: this workshop looks at the skills being assessed and effective ways of developing these. It looks at how practical work often focuses on a narrower range of skills than is needed and may limit access to high level thinking in science. The work in this workshop is based on a current EU FP7 study looking at assessment of science inquiry.
