Do you have a keen interest in science? Are you an NQT? PGCE? School Direct? Teachfirst? In your first five years Secondary Science teaching?

Come along to the Southern Counties Region ASE Early Career Teacher Workshop/Teachmeet, hosted at Purbrook Park School. Meet likeminded people who are keen to swap exciting classroom activities, find out about innovative ways of teaching and ways of developing your career.

We will have a few sessions followed by a short teachmeet;

Why are you doing practical work?  Frances Evans

Frances will look at what learning do you expect students to gain from the practical work yo carry out.  This is based on the 'Getting Practical' project.

“Understanding not just performing: Getting real learning from practical work”. Euan Douglas

Euan will look at preparing students for the new assessments at GCSE on practical skills and techniques, and how this can be developed through Key Stages 3 & 4.

“New GCSE’s no equipment and no money”! How we have done it!  Lyn Rawlings

In this session we look at how a school with very limited equipment and no money has approached the new GCSE with “open arms”. Find out how we did it, from upcycling to making equipment for under a £5, plus what help is out there to help you!

Getting pupils to work harder and you less! Toby Evans

Toby's mini session is based on the book "The Lazy Teacher"

This will be followed by other brief inputs - or ideas that others may wish to share.

Free sandwiches and cakes from 4.30pm
