An Online SEND and Low Attaining Masterclass for teachers of primary and secondary learners
This Online SEND Masterclass covers teaching students with special needs (and learners with prior low attainment).

Programme
A pre-course task will be circulated to prepare delegates for the course, and supporting slides will be provided afterwards.
0930-1030: General strategies - To explore the barriers to learning that apply to students dislaying SEND or prior low attainment and to identify some strategies to help these learners make progress and exemplify them in science teaching when planning for progress
1030-1100: Break
1100-1200: Resources for Success: To identify the features of a resource suitable for SEND learners and to be able to modify resources to suit them
1200-1300: Lunch
1300-1400: Developing Literacy: To identify strategies to support the development of literacy to students with SEND within science lessons (and exams)
1400-1430: Break
1430-1530: Specific Needs: Strategies for teaching students with a range of common special needs and Action Planning for next steps

About the presenter: Rob Butler was a special school science teacher for twenty years, working with SEND learners in mainstream schools before that. Rob has written the ELC/GCSE foundation workbook for OUP and regularly writes for Education in Chemistry and the ASE. Rob is a lead facilitator for STEM learning and the field officer for the ASE’s Midlands region. Rob is passionate about improving the quality of science provision for all those with SEND or prior low attainment.
