Tackling the challenge of teacher retention - ASE RISE
This session will discuss the findings of the ASE Teacher SOS report, and how the new ASE RISE project can help retain good science teachers
What can we do to retain good science teachers? What are the practical things that leaders of science and senior leaders can do?
The Gatsby Charitable Foundation's report on how schools used the ASE Science Teacher SOS document to support those thinking of leaving the profession highlights some of the strategies that science leaders and leadership teams have used.
The session will discuss the report's findings focused on how schools used the document to help improve the wellbeing, job satisfaction and career intentions of their science teachers. In addition, we will launch ASE RISE (Retention Initiative for Science Educators); an online platform that science leaders can use to diagnose issues within their science department, take positive action to improve the lives and professional development of their science teachers, and where necessary strengthen relationships between science departments and senior leaders.
