ASE challenges Arizona Department of Education on Evolution

ASE has written to the Arizona Department of Education to voice our concerns about a change to the description of Evolution, taken from our publication Working with the big Ideas of Science Education.

This document has served as a basis for the draft science standards in Arizona. The editorial changes that were made were considered substantive enough to impact on the scientific accuracy and the pedagogical effectiveness of the idea.

Our letter further states,

"We felt it necessary to weigh in because Working with Big Ideas was acknowledgedly so important to the drafting of the proposed Arizona state science standards and because its treatment of evolution was so damaged in the process...Whether in London or Phoenix, Birmingham or Tucson, Manchester or Mesa, students deserve our best efforts to ensure that they receive the best science education possible."
