A very popular and striking demonstration is the so-called Diet Coke Mento eruption (Wikipedia see Websites). A detailed explanation of the scientific principles involved has been published (Coffey, 2008a) together with a description of how the Diet Coke/Mentos experiment can be used as the basis for student investigations (Coffey, 2008b).
