Description

Changes in legislation on using radioactive sources, and the effect on schools.

The new regulations will be called the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017, abbreviated to IRR17, and will replace the present Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 (IRR99). The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) released draft regulations in February 2017 along with a consultation document, to which ASE, CLEAPSS and SSERC have responded. At the time of writing, the regulations are not final, but much of what will be in the regulations is clear from briefings given by the HSE.
