Technicians supporting practical chemistry
This online Practical Chemistry module will upskill technicians to improve their ways of working within their schools' scheme of work
About the course
Chemistry practical work is often seen as the most dangerous of the three sciences and often the most time consuming for technicians to prepare (and dispose of). On this interactive online course you will discover hints and tips to make chemistry practical work, ways to cut down on technician preparation time, disposal and storage of chemicals, chemistry demonstrations, the required practicals and some innovative chemistry practicals to add into the schools scheme of work.
During the day there will be a mixture of live demonstrations, videos, chats about good practice.
9.00-10.30
- Introduction
- Chemistry health and safety
- Chemical Storage
11.00-12.30
- Chemistry demonstrations
- GCSE and A Level required practicals (discussion with examples)
- Issues with chemistry preparation
13.30-15.00
- Chemistry practicals to engage students (live demonstrations)
- Evaluation and Action planning
Outcomes - You will be able to:
- Describe a range of innovative chemistry practicals
- Implement good chemistry preparation practice
- Evaluate the importance of chemistry practical in the schools SOW
- Explore relevant health and safety issues around Chemistry preparation and practicals
The course will be delivered using Zoom sessions, which will include group work/discussion and power-point slides. Participants will need access to a PC, or laptop or tablet / ipad type device, with good audio and a microphone, to maximise engagement on the day.

- Technician Member - £ 60
- Non-member Technician, with one year's Technician Membership (from the date of the course) - £ 83
