Celebrating #TECHOGNITION 2026

ASE's Technician Committee have drafted the following piece in support of TECHOGNITION day this year.
Every year the UK celebrates #TECHOGNITION, a national spotlight on the skills, dedication and essential work of school and college technical staff — from science labs to design & technology. This event, held on Friday 13th March this year, exists because technical colleagues play a vital role in making education happen, yet too often they work away from the limelight.

Across the UK technical staff ensure lessons run smoothly, practicals are safe and successful, equipment is ready, and students get the experiences they deserve. But how often are these efforts celebrated in school life?
In many places, teaching greatness is celebrated — but how often do technicians’ contributions get a mention?
So here’s the question for science teachers, heads of departments and school staff:
What do your technicians do that goes above and beyond?
This 2026 #Technognition, let’s change the narrative — shout about the skills, kindness, innovation and professionalism of your technicians! Nominate them on your school’s social media with the hashtag #Technognition2026, celebrate the work they do behind the scenes and in front of students, and give them the recognition they truly deserve.
Whether it’s fixing physics kits at 8 am, carefully diluting chemical stock for chemistry practicals for GCSE work, demonstrating gorey dissections or simply being the backbone of science teaching every day — let’s make sure our technicians are seen, appreciated and celebrated.
Join the conversation, share stories, tag your technicians — because every great school team member deserves applause.
