Help us celebrate 'Chartered Week'

ASE will be marking 'Chartered Week' and supporting the Science Council (and the British Computer Society who established the celebration) between 23-27 February 2026. The week helps shine a light on our members who have achieved chartered status, either CSciTeach, RSci or RSciTech. Please help share our social posts and encourage colleagues to find out more about applying for chartered status.

The Association for Science Education, as a licensed body of the Science Council, is proud to offer Professional Registration awards under the terms of its Royal Charter. These awards recognise individuals who meet the required standards and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in science education.

Hear from our members as they share their experiences of becoming professionally registered and the impact it has had on their careers.

“I am a Senior Assistant Head Teacher, overseeing Teaching & Learning and Curriculum at a secondary school in Southampton. I have been teaching Science for nearly 20 years, and before my current role I was Head of Department.

The process of applying to be a Chartered Science Teacher helped me identify the aspects of my work that were having most impact on me and my students. I think it helped to show colleagues that we remain on a professional journey of improvement throughout or careers as teachers, we should never stop learning ourselves or trying to improve and this commitment to CPD and the impact it has on my teaching and therefore my students’ learning is what Chartered Science Teacher status, for me, is all about.

If anyone is thinking of applying, I’d say ‘Absolutely do it’. Also, make sure your Head of Department knows you are doing it and the leadership in your school are aware. Don’t hide yourself away, be proud of what you do and the impact you have, and the commitment you are showing to improve.”
