Maths in Science Programme launching February 2026. Secure your place today.
About the programme
The ASE Maths in Science Programme is a new online CPD offer—building on ASE’s established expertise and experience—designed to help Key Stage 4 science teachers strengthen their confidence in teaching the mathematical elements of the science curriculum.
The programme will provide clear, supportive guidance to help teachers build their understanding, refresh key skills and feel more assured when teaching the maths that underpins GCSE science. By improving teacher confidence, the programme will have a direct, positive impact on students’ understanding and attainment.
From handling data to interpreting graphs and selecting equations, mathematical fluency is essential for GCSE science success. This short, focused programme offers practical strategies, clear explanations and ready-to-use approaches to support effective teaching in every science classroom.
The programme is free for all participants, thanks to generous funding from the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851. This support enables ASE to prioritise places for schools in deprived communities and those facing challenges such as difficulties recruiting specialist staff or a high proportion of teachers teaching out of specialism. The programme is designed to help all teachers—especially those who may feel less confident with maths—build their skills, strengthen their practice and teach with greater confidence.
What the programme includes
Five online twilight webinars (45 minutes each) running between February and April 2026, delivered by expert science educators and supported by ASE quality assurance.
Each session explores a key area of mathematics in science, including:
- The language of mathematics in science
- Understanding and representing data
- Graphs and relationships
- Calculations in science
- Mathematical modelling
All sessions are recorded, giving participants flexibility to watch live or on demand.
What participants will gain
- Clear, practical strategies for teaching maths within scientific contexts
- Improved confidence in explaining and modelling key concepts
- Strengthened understanding of how maths and science connect
- Worked examples, short follow-up tasks, and classroom-ready resources
- Complimentary ASE membership, offering access to ASE guidance, publications and professional networks
This programme is suitable for all KS4 science teachers, including those teaching outside their specialism or looking to refresh their approach. Priority will be given to teachers in schools in under-resourced areas and those teaching out of specialism.
The ASE is grateful to the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, whose generous support has made this programme possible.
The Royal Commission was established to organize the Great Exhibition in London and later evolved into a permanent educational trust. It now supports research projects for early career scientists, engineers and designers as well as STEM education initiatives and the stewardship of the South Kensington Cultural Quarter.
