New Chair for ASE Wales Region

We are delighted to share that ASE Wales Region has a new Chair. Liam Coupland, has been working with Past ASE Chair Jane Oldham this last year, to help communicate opportunities in the Wales region and will be stepping into the role of Chair, which has been vacant for a period.
Liam, is an experienced educator with over 10 years in education, he holds a BA (Hons) in Archaeology, a PGCE, a Master’s in Education with Leadership, and is a Chartered Science Teacher (CSciTeach).
He has spent eight and a half years as a class teacher at Maesycwmmer Primary School, including seven and a half years as the Science and Technology lead. Previously he served for six years as the Welsh representative on the Primary Committee of the Association for Science Education (ASE) and currently is a member of ASE’s Policy Group. He has also consulted and collaborated with the Wellcome Trust, Education Achievement Service (EAS), Institute of Physics, Royal Society of Chemistry, and BBC Bitesize amongst other learned bodies and organisations. In addition he has published in Primary Science, Education in Science, and the Primary Science Leaders’ Survival Guide through his work with the ASE
Liam said,
“I am honoured and excited to serve as the Welsh Chair for The ASE and to help shape its future. My personal priorities are to grow our membership, foster a supportive and inclusive network of science practitioners at all career stages across Wales, and strengthen collaboration & connections between ASE Cymru Members, especially developing the links between primary and secondary science practitioners.”
