Climate Change Education: For Physics
This session will look at where climate change sits in the physics curriclum, how to teach it effectively and how you can link to climate change in other parts of the curriculum.

What is this and who is it for?
Physics is at the heart of understanding the causes, the evidence and many of the solutions to the climate crisis. In this webinar we will look at how threading links to climate can bring relevance and purpose to physics lessons for many students and teachers, and how links to lives and to careers can make physics part of “the curriculum of hope”. Although the webinar will start with a discussion of the of the physics of climate, mostly it will be around threading climate and careers relevance through the diverse topics.
Those attending the event will develp their awareness of ways to bring:
- climate change education into physics teaching
- a sense of purpose to physics lessons so that it can resonate with students concerned about their world and future
- optimism into discussions about climate
This is aimed at anyone teaching physics in seconday educaation, regardless of their specialism.
Melissa Lord will be leading this event. Melissa is an experienced physics and science teacher, now working on a consultancy basis in physics education (for instance with the Ogden Trust); she volunteers as a STEM Climate Ambassador, and has produced a Carbon Literacy Course for teacher of physics. She has written physics and biology based resources for the National Education Nature Park and for the Royal Meteorological Society, where she sits on the Education Committee.
Cost
This is free for everyone to attend.
ASE are a charity, committed to making support for science teaching as accessible as possible, we are able to do this through the support of our members.
If you’re not already part of the ASE community, we invite you to join ASE for just £45 a year (free to trainees and ECTs in the first 2 years of teaching). This give you access to CPD (much is free to members), one of our Journals as well as our resources.
