Technicians Leadership: Working with and training others
This one-day course will help and support your leadership of others and how you communicate and work with individuals in your school.

Working with others can be difficult and developing your team’s skills and knowledge can also have its issues. This one-day course will help and support your leadership of others and how you communicate and work with individuals in your school to support an effective technical service. The course, led by Simon Quinnell, will also develop your training and continuing professional development skills and knowledge, so you can confidently support the development of technicians and teachers in your institution and beyond. The course content will explore, successful communication strategies, difficult conversations, developing your team, delivering effective CPD and training, coaching and mentoring and dealing with difficult people.
You will be able to:
- describe strategies for effective communication and assess those used in your workplace
- evaluate ways to effectively deal with difficult situations with others.
- describe methods of effective training, mentoring, coaching and feedback and demonstrate how these can be used to develop individuals by planning, implementing and carrying out episodes of CPD
Programme
09.00 to 10.30 Successful communication
Exploring what makes communication effective, assessing what communication strategies you use, how to get the best out of other people and running meetings.
11.00 to 12.30 Effective relationships and difficult conversations
How to work with people with differing views to your own, working with difficult characters and what strategies to use and how to hold successful difficult conversations.
13.30 to 15.00 Delivering effective CPD
How to deliver successful CPD to others in your school and college, what is good CPD, what development opportunities are there and what types of CPD could you deliver.
This module forms part of the 3 day ASE Technicians Leadership Programme. This module is Working With and Training others. The other modules are Leading yourself and your team and Organising your technical service. Whilst they are part of a series of Leadership modules, each module can be taken individually as many technicians opt to choose those particular topics that are most relevant to their career development.
All modules will be delivered using Zoom and will include group work/discussion and power-point slides. Participants will need access to a PC, or laptop or tablet / ipad type device, with a microphone, good audio and a screen to maximise engagement during the course.
Cost
£60 for ASE Member Technicians (Membership is £25 per year!)
£83 for ASE Non-Member Technicians including a year's membership from the date of the course
£120 for Non-Member technicians
