Last night the Science Council hosted its 2025 Celebration of Science event. The awards celebrate outstanding achievements in the science community and this year have been divided into seven different ‘Recognition Awards’:

  1. CSci Award – given to someone who exemplifies what it means to be a Chartered Scientist.
  2. CSciTeach Award – given to someone who exemplifies what it means to be a Chartered Science Teacher.
  3. RSci Award – given to someone who exemplifies what it means to be a Registered Scientist.
  4. RSciTech Award – given to someone who exemplifies what it means to be a Registered Science Technician.
  5. Apprentice Ambassador Award – given to an individual who has excelled in promoting science apprenticeships.
  6. Elevating the Science Workforce Award – this award is given to an exemplar individual or organisation making a contribution to elevating the science workforce, from which others can learn.
  7. Science Council Volunteer Award – this award is given to a Science Council volunteer – for example, as a Trustee, CAP Assessor, Committee Member, Registrant Champion or Applicant Support Mentor.

We are delighted that two of our former ASE Chairs, Jane Oldham and Helen Harden both received awards last night. Helen Harden received the CSciTeach Award and Jane Oldham received the RSciTech Award.

Jane said about her RSciTech award,

'I am very proud to be a registered science technician and to receive this award is a great honour. Being a member of the ASE has enabled me to share my passion for CPD and professional registration for science technicians and I am grateful for the recognition of my work. As a school science technician I am keen to raise our profile and I hope this award will go some way to showing how professional and committed school science technicians are.'

Helen said about her CSciTeach award,

‘I am honoured to have been selected as the Chartered Science Teacher Award winner. Having started my career in the science classroom, my priority has a never ceased to be supporting students to learn about science. I am proud to hold CSciTeach status and am immensely grateful for this award.'
