David Allen, Chair, The Association for Science Education

This year’s conference was a true celebration of everything the ASE stands for - a fantastic reminder of the talent and dedication within our organisation. It was great to see so many people from across the science education landscape coming together to trade insights, catch up on the latest trends, and look at the hurdles we’re all facing.

The variety across the days was fantastic. Between the headline speakers, the hands-on sessions, and the buzz in the exhibition halls, there was never a quiet moment. But as well as the schedule, it was the people who made it—the conversations in the corridors and the catch-ups over coffee were just as valuable as the formal program.

This morning I feeling genuinely inspired and ready to get started on the new ideas I’ve picked up. It was a pleasure to spend time with a community that is so clearly dedicated to making a difference.

Ali Redmore, Conference Secretary

I have been attending the ASE Annual Conference for more years than I care to remember and always value the annual invigorating boost to my knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for science education.  This year was no different.  There are other conferences available that serve single sectors of our community, but there is something very powerful about having primary teachers, secondary teachers, FE lecturers, science technicians, teacher educators, researchers, school leaders, science policy makers, consultants, publishers, science equipment suppliers, learned societies and more – all together in one place to learn, debate and network,  It is an extraordinary privilege to be part of it and I would urge all ASE members to put next year’s conference in Northampton in their diaries now. (And encourage colleagues who are not members yet to join!)

Huge thanks to the talented ASE Conference team plus the many willing volunteers that made it happen.

Around the conference

I think you’ll all agree that the ASE Annual Conference 2026 was truly one to remember. We were delighted by the number of people who chose to join us, and we are especially grateful to everyone who made the journey despite the challenging weather. Take a look at some of the highlights from three packed and inspiring days.

Talks and workshops

Across three days in Nottingham, the conference featured more than 220 sessions, including six inspiring keynote talks and a Presidential Address. From thought-provoking discussions on climate change and the future of teaching to practical sessions such as Everyday Chemistry and Inspiring New Generations, there was something for everyone.

Exhibition highlights

This year’s exhibition hall was buzzing with activity and completely full, featuring a wide range of stands for delegates to explore. From our partnership sponsors AQA, Educake and Philip Harris, to hands-on attractions such as the Worm House with real superworms and the chance to browse themed resources with My Science Club, there was something to capture everyone’s interest.

Award winners and recognition

Each year, we take time to recognise members who have made a significant impact on the work of ASE. During the conference, we also celebrate achievements through our awards ceremonies, including honours such as Technician of the Year and Book of the Year. This year was no different, and we would like to thank everyone who took part, those who were nominated, and offer a special congratulations to our winners.

Social highlights

Every year, the ASE conference hosts a variety of social events, from the Members’ Reception to the ever-popular Curry and Quiz, always filled with laughter and friendly competition. Alongside these, delegates enjoy lunches and networking events throughout the three days. Each one is a wonderful opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals.
