What is the event?
This is part of our ‘New to Science Teaching’ series, a series of webinars to help those of you new to the profession, new to teaching in the UK or anyone looking for a refresher. The series explores a number of key areas in teaching secondary science, where experienced practitioners will share their expertise to give you some top tips to help you get started. This session will specifically look at Practical Work. Practicals are critical in science teaching, to develop students skills using scientific equipment, their knowledge and confidence around health and safety as well as providing brilliant opportunities for developing learning and understanding. They are often the lesson students will most look forward to. Managing a class effectively is essential, not only for student safety, but also to maximise their learning. Different practicals can present different challenges to teachers, whether it’s out of your specialism, meeting learnings needs or managing behaviour. A practical lesson may draw on a number of skills in students, how can you effectively engage them and manage their cognitive load? Join Caroline Neuberg, an experience secondary science teacher and teacher trainer as she share her expertise and tips for making practicals an effective part of your lessons.
