We are delighted to announce that Ali Redmore has been appointed by the Trustee Body as our new Chair of the Conference Working Group. Ali takes over from Chris Harrison whose term of office as Conference Secretary will come to an end after the Nottingham Conference in January 2025.

Many of you may already know Ali, who has previously been a member and subsequently Chair of the ASE Trustee Body (2015 – 2023).  Ali joined ASE in October 1977 and has worked in various roles including science teacher, university lecturer, external examiner, author, school governor, Ofsted Inspector, and Science Learning Centre director amongst many other things. She has attended all but two Annual Conferences over the past 45 years and is passionate about the value, quality and reach of this flagship event as well as the benefits of membership of the ASE to science educators.

Ali takes up the role as Chair of the Conference Working group rather than Honorary Conference Secretary: a title which reflects the changing nature of the role to one focused more on collaboration with our members to shape the content and programme, to ensure it reflects the needs and challenges faced by our community.

Lynn Ladbrook CEO says “I am absolutely delighted that Ali will be taking an active role in the ASE again and helping us to drive ASE Annual Conference forward in this new role.  Ali is already planning for ASE 2026 – she has a collegiate and collaborative approach, an enthusiasm and drive that is infectious and an enviable network that we think will help ASE conference go from strength to strength.

Ali Redmore said “I’m really looking forward to working with colleagues on planning and developing the Annual Conference.  Thank you for your confidence in me."

We would like to extend our enormous thanks to Chris Harrison whose leadership and dedication has been instrumental in shaping and driving the success of our last few conferences (2020-2024) –especially those held on line during the two years of the COVID pandemic.  Chris has laid a strong foundation that bridges research and practice and encourages networking and innovation. The 2025 conference will be Chris’s last as honorary conference secretary and we look forward to continue building on this success in the future.

“ I have really enjoyed working alongside Angela Buckland (Conference Director)in developing and reshaping conference over the last few years, and must give thanks to the generosity, expertise and kindness of a host of ASE members who have worked with us to ensure we provide our flagship professional learning event each year, no matter what! I have attended conference every year since 1979, with the exception of Cardiff, when it snowed heavily and I was banned from taking my 11 week old baby by my mother! I am now looking forward to being an attendee once again in 2026.”

Ali officially takes up the role in January 2025, but will begin work behind the scenes with the group as work begins on planning for Conference 2026.
