Teaching Physics: From Basics to Brilliance series are dynamic, interactive workshops designed to provide subject-specific support for teachers of physics. Whether you're looking to deepen your subject knowledge or refine your teaching strategies, our sessions have you covered!

This series is perfect if you would like to deepen your understanding of using practical effectively, as needed at GCSE and develop effective pedagogical techniques to support you students learning. It’s perfect for anyone new to teaching this topic, anyone teaching out of specialism, or anyone looking to re-fresh their skills and approach.

Topics Covered:

• Tips on leading practicals, minds-on as well as hands-on and using simulations
• Specific heat capacity
• Thermal radiation
• Resistance and length
• V=IR
• Ripple tank
• Density and other practicals

We will go through general advice on leading practicals - how to ensure the students are minds-on as well as hands-on, how to prepare them, different ways of managing them from quick, simple demos to full-on practicals, how to take, record and analyse data etc. The remainder will be spent on specific practicals as listed, using simulations to illustrate points.

These sessions will:

• Improve your subject knowledge and strengthen your understanding of core concepts
• Explore effective strategies to address common misconceptions and enhance student learning
• Identify the big ideas and links across the field of physics to create a cohesive learning experience.

Sessions are interactive and have been expertly planned to develop your learning teaching. Sessions will be recorded. You will be sent a link to the recording which will be valid until 31st August 2026.
